Hyundai 2018 Kona EV
Hyundai 2018 Kona EV

Hyundai has released details of the pure electric Kona EV. Release date is probably late 2018 / early 2019.

The compact SUV will be available in two trim levels.

The short range engine produces 99kW and 395Nm. 0 to 100km/h sprint in 9.3 seconds. Charging takes approx 6 hours and 10 minutes with a standard wall socket with a range of approx 300 km.

The long range engine produces 150kW and 395Nm. 0 to 100km/h sprint in 7.4 seconds and the range is 470km due a larger 64kWh lithium ion polymer battery.

The Kona EV is still very similar to the standard Kona. Due to the different engine the grille and front bumper have been re-designed and there are a few electric only options in the interior, e.g. the normal gear shifter has been replaced with a set of buttons. The Kona EV does have some extra equipment vs the standard Kona such as adaptive cruise control.
